When to rebuild, when to lift-and-shift, and when to do nothing.
Three signals decide the path: site health, business trajectory, and team capacity. Score each on a 1–5 scale and the answer usually picks itself.
Healthy site, stable business: transfer to managed and keep moving. Unhealthy site, growing business: rebuild on a foundation that can scale.
Unhealthy site, flat business: stabilise, don't rebuild. Healthy site, struggling business: invest in conversion, not chrome.
The most expensive rebuild is the one started for the wrong reason.
